Low Carb Diet Plan

Are you thinking of going on a low carb diet? Then you'll want to make sure you find the low carb diet plan that's going to work best for you and follow it to the letter.

How to Determine Which Low Carb Diet Plan is Right for You
Before you start any low carb diet plan, you need to be realistic about how many carbs you currently eat in a day. The best way to do this is to write down everything you eat for a week. Measure everything so you know how much cereal you're eating, what size apple you eat, whatever. (Yes, it's a pain, but if you're going to go on a low carb diet, you need to get used to weighing and measuring and counting.) But for this one week only, it's easier. Instead of measuring your morning cereal first, just pour the amount you normally eat in a bowl, then measure how much you poured. Then do the math according to the label and the serving size. And be honest. This particular week is not the week to make adjustments to your eating habits. Not just yet.

At the end of this week, you'll be able to determine how many carbs you eat daily, on average. Chances are it's 250 or more, particularly if you're really overweight and your doctor has ruled out a medical condition as a cause. We don't say that to be critical--we're just trying to help you nail down the cause of your weight problem. The thing is, most of us eat over 250 grams of carbs a day. If you don't, good for you! A low carb diet plan might not be too hard for you to follow. Bear in mind that most low carb diet plans only allow you to eat 20 grams of carbs a day during the first two weeks. Then you get more--typically 40-60 grams a day until you've lost the weight you want to lose, then you maintain at 130-150 grams a day, which is what we need to maintain good health. Eating far more than 130 grams of carbs a day without being active is what causes weight gain.

If you don't think you can go cold turkey on carbs--(and cold turkey might be something you'll need to get used to on a low carb diet plan) to the extreme that a low carb diet plan requires, maybe you should look into a more balanced diet program like Weight Watchers. Sure, the weight loss will be slower, but that just means it will stay off longer. In addition, keeping a balanced diet is a healthier way to lose weight.
